The '''Apple IIgs''' (formally the '''Apple IIGS''' - the 'GS' stands for "Graphics and Sound") was the most powerful member of the [[Apple II]] family. It included [[multi-media]] capabilities such as sound, and had a built-in [[mouse]]. It was designed as an open system (unlike the [[Apple IIc]]); the expansion slots are compatible with those of the Apple II, [[Apple II+]], and [[Apple IIe]]. It was down-graded to avoid competing with the [[Macintosh]], and was eventually replaced by it.
