Name
In Stanford circles, think I have mostly seen the computer referred to as the "SUN workstation". I suppose strictly speaking just "SUN" would be the network.
Of course, the fact that Sun Microsystems grabbed the same name makes for confusion. Case in point, Stanford's "SUN display" talks about the SUN project, but displays a Sun-1 as far as I can see. Larsbrinkhoff (talk) 14:16, 29 January 2023 (CET)
- Right; and in fact the proposal calls it the 'SUN workstation' (I did write "usually denominated as a SUN"). I'm not sure why I used 'Stanford University Network workstation' - probably just my general habit of expanding acronyms!? I'd be happy to move it; it sounds like you think we should? - Yes, I think "SUN workstation" is better rather than spelling it all out. I'm grovelling around SAIL files and happened upon a list of name suggestions where "SUN workstation" came out on top. Also, from the start in 1979 the CPU was supposed to be a Z8000! Larsbrinkhoff (talk) 14:58, 29 January 2023 (CET)
