When using either a video terminal or a bit-mapped display, a cursor is a special graphical indicator which shows where on the screen the user is currently working (especially when using a screen editor).

Cursors are often displaying blinking, in able to allow the eye to locate them more easily. When using a system with a mouse, the mouse usually controls the location of the cursor.
