History

Great find, that history! In addition to all the detailed technical history, it says "in 1976 the TX-0 will be moved to the Computer Museum of the Digital Equipment Corporation". (I can understand why DEC wanted it; it was basically the prototype PDP-1!) So my immediate reaction was 'I wonder if the CHM got it'; I looked, and apparently they did. Interesting artifacts

There are several interesting artifacts in that history:

  • "Flexowriter Interrogation Tape (Flit), for use as an aid in on-line debugging" - FLIT was a brand of insecticide; I wonder if this is the etymological root for the later 'DDT'?
  • "A new and improved assembly program, Midas, was written" - it had significant macro capabilities (for its day); it was likely the base of all the later ones (I'll have to see if the sister PDP-1 at RLE had one).

Truly a historic machine, in many ways! Jnc (talk) 14:18, 16 June 2023 (CEST)

I would be surprised if FLIT and DDT didn't share the same pun.
I posted a link to a memo about PDP-1 MIDAS on the MIDAS page. Larsbrinkhoff (talk) 17:55, 16 June 2023 (CEST)
Yah, I saw that in the Midas article; after I wrote that, of course. :-( Jnc (talk) 20:31, 16 June 2023 (CEST)
