VisiCalc
Type: Spreadsheet
Creator: VisiCorp
Date Released: 1979

VisiCalc was the first spread-sheet program, the original 'killer app' for personal computers in the business world. Originally written for the Apple II, it was ported to numerous other platforms, including the IBM PC.

VisiCorp couldn't keep up the momentum of VisiCalc, and others filled the void.

VisiCalc today

It will run under a variety of Apple II emulators, but... Windows XP and Vista maintain the ability to run 8086 MS-DOS binaries on the 32 bit x86 platform, at least, so you can run the DOS version directly. You can get an executable here from the original creator!
