What You See Is What You Get (often abbreviated to the acronym, WYSIWYG) is a term first used at Xerox PARC to describe editors which used a bit-mapped display (on the Alto workstation) to show what documents using multiple fonts would look like when printed.
It has since come to mean the use of such systems to display multi-media content in its final form.
