The '''International Network Working Group''' (usually referred to by its acronym, '''INWG''') was the first organized group to study the field of [[internetwork]]ing - the connection together of disparate [[data network]]s. It was formed in 1972, at the first International Conference on Computer Communications; about a year later, it was given a formal home in the [[International Federation for Information Processing]], as IFIP Working Group 6.1 - Computer Communication.

Although the INWG eventually tailed out, a deep descendant, the [[Internet Engineering Task Force]], is today in charge of the technology of the [[Internet]], the [[internetwork|internet]] which the INWG laid the groundwork for.
