The MicroVAX 2000 is a late minicomputer VAX in a desktop mounting box, using a microprocessor mounted on a motherboard. The VAXstation 2000 is a MicroVAX 2000 with an added bit-mapped display.

MicroVAX 2000 with DEC423 converter attached

The MicroVAX 2000 system has a DEC423 converter attached to the back of the system box and is mounted over the video and printer ports. The DEC423 converter changes the RS232 signals on the 15-pin video port and 9-pin printer port into DEC423 signals which go out to the three MMJ connectors. [8]

Power Supply

Memory Options

Only one MS400 memory module may be connected to a KA410-A system module, which has 2MB on-board memory.

Mass Storage Options

  • RX33 5.25" Floppy Drive
  • RD32 42MB Disk Drive
  • RD53 71MB Disk Drive
  • RD54 159MB Disk Drive
  • TK50 96MB Cartridge Tape Drive

Communication Options

Expansion Boxes

You need the BA40A expansion adapter to connect any of the expansion boxes, but only one adapter is needed for two boxes.

The expansion box houses either a tape drive or a fixed disk drive and is shipped with a drive cable. The drive cable connects the expansion box to the MicroVAX 2000 / VAXstation 2000 system unit's expansion adapter. The expansion adapter must already be installed on the bottom of the MicroVAX 2000 / VAXstation 2000 system unit before the expansion box is connected.

You may install a total of two expansion boxes (one with a fixed disk and one with a tape drive). If you are installing more than one expansion box, first install the expansion box with the tape drive, and then install the expansion box with the fixed disk.
