Capitalization of Pages Names

I noticed that pages name are sometimes capitalized and sometimes not.

That looks strange resp. ugly when you link to several pages (e.g. hardware components) of which some are capitalized and some not.

I would prefer having pages names capitalized and would start renaming those I link to if you don't mind.

What do you think? Vaxorcist (talk) 17:17, 5 September 2022 (CEST)

I have usually (in recent years, at east) followed the capitalization (and name) used in DEC documents about the thing the page is about. When I first started writing here, though, I tended to use lower case (and still do, for pages about generic topics; e.g. display refresh - although MediaWiki forces the first character to be a capital, when displaying the page). I also tended to use names with a system, so all pages about synchronous serial line interface used 'synchronous serial line' in the names.
I am trying to remember why/how I switched from 'making up' names (like this one) to always using the name used in DEC documents; I do not remember well, though. Probably I decided that for a mixture of reasons, it was easier/better to use the exact name used in DEC documents.
This has resulted in some inconsistency, though: e.g. EK-DUP11-OP-002 says the DUP11 is a "DUP11 Synchronous Line Interface" - but when I first created the page in March 2020‎ (probably as an edited version of DP11-A synchronous serial line interface, from September 2019‎), I apparently just tweaked the 'DP11-A synchronous serial line interface' name.
The problem with moving all DEC product pages to always use the exact name used in DEC documents is that it would be a tremendous amount of work. First, there are hundreds of pages which would have to be renamed. (Yes, if we did so, at least they would then all follow a system - although perhaps not the best one.) All redirects that point to the old names (e.g. 'DUP11 synchronous serial line interface' - Special:WhatLinksHere/DUP11 synchronous serial line interface shows DUP11) would have to be fixed, since in MediaWiki, 'double redirects' do not work. (In fact, there is a special page, Special:DoubleRedirects, to list them all, so they can be fixed.) Then, it would be good to update all pages that link to the old name - we used to do that on Wikipedia when we moved a page, because redirects are somewhat inefficient.
I am not big on such a project, though, because I would rather see the time/energy spent on creating new content e.g. Special:WantedPages.
However, if there are a few pages that you find especially irritating, it would be OK to move them, though. Jnc (talk) 18:06, 5 September 2022 (CEST)
