The DN87/DN87S Universal Synchronous/Asynchronous Communications Front End Subsystem was a front end subsystem for the PDP-10 which supported a large number of serial lines - a mixture of both synchronous serial lines and asynchronous serial lines.

It was built around a PDP-11/40, to which were added a number of interface peripherals:

Options included:

To connect up to the PDP-10, the DN87 used a DL10. The DN87S was identical to the DN87, except that it used a DTE20 for its connection (and thus could only be used on a KL10).
