The '''DN87/DN87S Universal Synchronous/Asynchronous Communications Front End Subsystem''' was a [[front end]] subsystem for the [[PDP-10]] which supported a large number of [[serial line]]s - a mixture of both [[synchronous serial line]]s and [[asynchronous serial line]]s.

It was built around a [[PDP-11/40]], to which were added a number of interface [[peripheral]]s:

* [[DQ11 NPR Synchronous Line Interface]]

Options included:

* [[KG11-A Exclusive-OR and CRC Block Check Option]]
* [[DN11 Automatic Calling Unit Interface]]

To connect up to the PDP-10, the DN87 used a [[DL10 PDP-11 Data Link‎|DL10]]. The DN87S was identical to the DN87, except that it used a [[DTE20 Ten-Eleven Interface|DTE20]] for its connection (and thus could only be used on a [[KL10]]).
