'''Firmware''' is the name for a [[program]] which is embedded in a particular system/device. It is usually distributed in [[binary]] form, in a [[read-only memory|ROM]] of some sort in/on the device/system.

The term is usually applied to [[object code]] for a [[central processing unit|CPU]] of some sort (typically a [[microprocessor]]), but it might also be [[microcode]].
