'''IPv4''' is the roughly the fourth specified version of the [[Internet Protocol]]; still in common use, it was the version of IP in use throughout the early growth of the [[Internet]]. The [[Internet Engineering Task Force|IETF]] later attempted to replace it with a new. 'improved' version ([[IPv6]]), but although they managed to get the latter fairly widely deployed, it did not drive out IPv4.
