The '''SDS 940''' (renamed to '''XDS 940''' after [[Scientific Data Systems|SDS]] was purchased by Xerox and renamed 'XDS') was effectively an [[SDS 930]] [[mainframe]] upgraded with [[memory management]] hardware (including [[virtual memory]]) to allow it to be used for [[time-sharing]], using a derivative of the [[Berkeley Timesharing System]].
