A '''signal''' refers to the transmission of information, usually by electrical means along a [[conductor]]. All such signals are, of course, at base [[analog]], but at a higher level, they may be [[digital]] (i.e. in theory, can only take a limited number of values).

The term 'signal' is also sometime used for raising an [[exception]] in a [[condition handler]] system.
