Mass storage is a term for the subset of secondary storage which can store large amounts of data, and almost always has a high-speed channel to transfer it quickly to the computer to which it is attached.
The two common types are magnetic tape and disks (although the rise of solid state mass storage such as flash memory may make them obsolete).
