Maurice V. Wilkes was a British computer scientist, in 1951 was Director of the Mathematical Laboratory of the University of Cambridge. Among his accomplishments were EDSAC (the first usable stored-program computer) and popularizing the use of microcode.
He has written many articles and books, among them:
- The Preparation of Programs for an Electronic Digital Computer, 1951 (with David J. Wheeler and Stanley Gill) - the first book ever published about programming
- Chapter 7, 'Calculating Machine Development at Cambridge', in Faster Than Thought, 1953
- Chapter 2, 'The EDSAC', in Automatic Digital Computation, 1954
