Michigan Algorithm Decoder (usually given as its acronym, MAD) was a compiled programing language. It was based on ALGOL 58, to which it was similar in spirit (but not syntax).
The compiler was originally written in 1959 for the IBM 704; it was subsequentially moved to the IBM 709, IBM 7090 and IBM 7094 by the University of Michigan Computing Center staff. Other groups elsewhere moved it to the IBM 7040, Philco 210-211, and Sperry Rand 1107.
It was much used on CTSS.
