EMACS/Emacs

My "EMACS Manual for ITS Users", by RMS himself, EMACS version 146,17 April 1980 uses the all-upper-case form. It may be spelled as a proper noun ('Emacs') now, but... My general preference is to use capitalization as in original sources (hence UNIX Sixth Edition, but Unix Seventh Edition), but I can see an argument for using the current convention. I will usually spell it EMACS when referring to the original, and Emacs for the generic concept and the GNU version. (Worse, MACLISP/MAClisp/MacLisp/Maclisp can all be seen in the wild.) Larsbrinkhoff (talk) 07:55, 25 August 2021 (CEST)
