* New categories - I just suffered an even bigger attack of 'category madness' than the one a few days ago (although thankfully they are less destructive than Dave Moon's 'TECO madness' :-); you can see the new ones here. :Category:Standards (a new top-level category), :Category:DEC Displays etc all appeared because we had articles that didn't fit well anywhere in the existing category graph. If you think I was 'confused' in any of that (quite possible :-), please take it here. Jnc (talk) 21:21, 13 January 2024 (CET)
* Security' Category - I have created a new 'top-level' category, :Category:Security, because some new stuff didn't seem to have a natural home in the existing system. Or perhaps I should have promoted :Category:Theory to the top level, and made 'Security' a sub-category of that? Although some things that should go in 'Security', like HTTPS, aren't really theory, so maybe it's right for it to be at the top level? Comment at Category talk:Security. * Red links in navigation boxes - Unwritten articles in navigation boxes not only look ugly (well, I think they do), they also fill up Special:WantedPages with lots of spurious 'high-priority' (from lots of links to them) entries. Can I plead with people not to fill out navigation boxes with links to un-written articles? (A month or two of delay in writing them is OK; but please don't just leave them forever, and never get a 'round tuit'.) I have commented out all the links to un-written articles in our current navigation boxes (list of them here), where they will wait for the articles to be written. * Another external links update - After a very long haul of slogging through External links search I have found, and fixed, all the links to Manx-docs.org/collections/. (In doing so, I found and fixed a few other broken ones, too.) In the course of that, I found that a fairly complete collection of almost all the sets of MDS documents, at Filibeto.org (as described in DEC manuals).

: As I opined previously, I think that Linking to Bitsavers is still, I feel, to be preferred over the use of almost all other external sources for documents to link to, because Bitsavers is associated with the Computer History Museum, which is a fairly substantial institution, and thus less likely to vanish with no warning (as several other collections/sites did). So, if there is a choice between two copies of something, one on a personal site, and the other on Bitsavers, the one on Bitsavers should always be preferred, I reckon. * Expandable navigation boxes - For navigation boxes which have gotten too large, there is now a way to hide part of them behind an 'Expand/Collapse' button; see Help:Introduction to Templates, which now contains instructions for both kinds. An example of an expandable one may be seen here. Jnc (talk) 21:39, 29 December 2023 (CET)

 • 'Security' Category - I have created a new 'top-level' category, Category:Security, because some new stuff didn't seem to have a natural home in the existing system. Or perhaps I should have promoted Category:Theory to the top level, and made 'Security' a sub-category of that? Although some things that should go in 'Security', like HTTPS, aren't really theory, so maybe it's right for it to be at the top level? Comment at Category talk:Security. • Another external links update - After a very long haul of slogging through External links search I have found, and fixed, all the links to Manx-docs.org/collections/. (In doing so, I found and fixed a few other broken ones, too.) In the course of that, I found that a fairly complete collection of almost all the sets of MDS documents, at Filibeto.org (as described in DEC manuals).
As I opined previously, I think that Linking to Bitsavers is still, I feel, to be preferred over the use of almost all other external sources for documents to link to, because Bitsavers is associated with the Computer History Museum, which is a fairly substantial institution, and thus less likely to vanish with no warning (as several other collections/sites did). So, if there is a choice between two copies of something, one on a personal site, and the other on Bitsavers, the one on Bitsavers should always be preferred, I reckon.
