Hypertext is content which is enriched above simple text. It may include images or other multi-media content, but the most important enrichement are hyperlinks, which allow the place in the hypertext where they are to link to another place.

Applications which display hypertext usually have some means to allow a user viewing the content to jump to the hyperlink's destination; e.g. by using a mouse to indicate the hyperlink of interest, and then clicking on it.

The most important application on the Internet is the Web, which is a distibuted database of hypertext content.
