Drive

Drive refers to the mechanism of most secondary storage systems; for units with removable media, it is the part which remains connected to the computer (via a device controller).

There are several kinds, depending on the storage medium:

• disk drives, or hard drives;
• tape drives for magnetic tape
• floppy drives for floppy diskettes
