Extended Industry Standard Architecture refers to a bus which was intended to be a faster, 32-bit version of the Industry Standard Architecture bus common on early IBM-compatible PCs. It never caught on; the Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) bus instead became the ISA's replacement.
