A video game is generally taken to be a game which is provided by a computer with a display. Some of the very early predecessors used arrays of light bulbs, before displays became common on computers.
Video games did not become widely available until the advent of microprocessors, although a few arcade games which used displays (e.g. 'Pong') were produced which used custom logic.
