Digital Equipment Corporation produced a selection of mounting boxes (mechanical hardware) to hold backplanes (and the printed circuit boards which plugged into them).
In theory, most mounting boxes are capable of holding either UNIBUS or QBUS backplanes, but generally they specialized in one or the other. This was in large part because most UNIBUS backplanes used the DEC power distribution connectors to connect to the power harness in the mounting box, but QBUS ones did not; the wiring harnesses of QBUS backplanes generally connect directly to the power supply in those mounting box. (This change in practise likely happened because of problems, or voltage drops, caused by the connectors in the DEC power distribution connector system.)
