Paul Allen was one of the co-founders of Microsoft, along with his childhood friend Bill Gates; unlike Gates, he kept a fairly low public profile. He left day-to-day work there in early 1983, after a diagnosis with a severe medical disorder. He then became involved in a large number of different areas, one of which was the Living Computer Museum (now closed).
