The VAXstation 4000 Model 96 was DEC's most powerful microprocessor VAX workstation. It shared its enclosure with the VAXstation 4000 Model 60. It used a motherboard with SIMM memory modules; several different graphics options were available:

- SPXg (8-plane 3D)
- SPXgt (24-plane 3D
