Talk:Ethernet
Tri-company acronym
I remember the acronym for DEC, Intel and Xerox being "DIX" instead of "XDI". Vaxorcist (talk) 08:13, 11 June 2022 (CEST)
- Oh, you might be right; that 'rings a bell', as the English expression goes. Let me dig into my archive of contemporary documents, and see what I can find. Jnc (talk) 11:51, 11 June 2022 (CEST)
Capitalization?
Was 'ethernet' canonically capitalized ('Ethernet') or not? I seem to recall that it was? Jnc (talk) 05:13, 20 August 2022 (CEST)
- Yes, I think so - similar to names of companies, products, etc. And I remember that DEC capitalized "Ethernet" almost always. Vaxorcist (talk) 13:38, 20 August 2022 (CEST)
- OK, thanks for confirming that. I have checked all the articles that link to 'Ethernet', and found a few that needed correction. Jnc (talk) 14:32, 21 August 2022 (CEST)
Split coverage of Experimental Ethernet to a separate page?
For historical reasons in the content creation, the Experimental Ethernet is covered here, along with the DIX Ethernet. Should we move the former to Experimental Ethernet? If so, should DIX Ethernet content be moved to DIX Ethernet? Ethernet could not become simply a disambiguation page, as there is some material which is shared between the two - e.g. they both use CSMA-CD - and that should not be duplicated (something which I generally abhor - "In anything at all, perfection has been attained not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away".)
I dunno; looking at it, there's not much to move to Experimental Ethernet. Maybe it's good the way it is? Jnc (talk) 14:55, 31 December 2022 (CET)
