Systems Engineering Laboratories was a maker of minicomputers, specializing in their use in real-time systems. Founded in 1959, their initial products were 16-bit machines, but they moved into larger machines fairly quickly, with a 24-bit machine in 1966, and their first 32-bit machines (the SEL 32 series) in 1975.

They were acquired by Gould Electronics in 1981, but after that company's acquisition by Nippon Mining in 1988, they were spun off, and purchased by Encore Computer in 1989. During the period when they were part of Gould, their machines were branded as 'Gould's.
