The TS11 Subsystem was a low price, medium performance, 9-track magnetic tape tape storage system which had custom microprocessor controlled electronics for high data reliability and maintainability. The TS11 Subsystem consists of the TS04 Tape Transport, and the TS11 controller interface module, which plugs into a UNIBUS backplane in the host computer. They communicate over a serial bus.

A TS11 with one magnetic tape drive was US$15,400 in 1980 (according to: PDP-11, VAX-11 Price List April - September 1980, EE-18587-04-80).
