The DECserver 500 series is a line DEC terminal server devices. They are housed in a BA213 S-Box QBus enclosure, and include:
- KDJ11-D J-11 processor
- DESQAEthernet controller
- One or more CYX08 8-line or CXA16 16-line serial interfaces
The DECserver 500 series does not store configuration or firmware locally; rather, they are down-line loaded over Ethernet via MOP.
