============================ Darwin 1.4.1 Release Notes October 1, 2001 ============================ Darwin 1.4.1 corresponds with Mac OS X v10.1. Notable changes to Darwin include: * Mac OS X v10.1 operating system improvements See http://www.apple.com/macosx/ for details * Bootable Darwin CD This is the first Darwin release with a bootable PowerPC image * wget is replaced with curl * apache_mod_hfs_apple included * Common packages updated: openssl, openssh, tcsh, apache, cron, fetchmail, procmail, sudo, and others. * Better support for Intel-based ethernet cards on x86 Licensing Information ----------------------- The contents of the Darwin 1.4.1 CD image are covered by several licenses: * The Apple-developed portions of the Source Code and corresponding binary package folders are covered by the Apple Public Source License Version 1.2. * A few Apple-provided drivers are only available as binaries, and are covered by the Apple Binary Driver Software License Agreement. The drivers covered by this license are located in /System/Installation/apple_binary/ on the Install CD image. * Other portions of Darwin 1.4.1 may be covered by third party licenses. Please read all these licenses carefully before using any of this software, as your use of this software signifies that you have read the licenses and that you accept and agree to their respective terms. Known Issues ---------------- * Darwin 1.4.1 should not be installed onto a Mac OS X partition. It is a goal for a future release of Darwin to be easily interchanged into a Mac OS X system. * The contents of this CD cannot entirely be reproduced from the source in anoncvs.opensource.apple.com. It contains binary versions of certain non-open source drivers. * Tulip ethernet cards require a special driver. Tulip ethernet chips were used in the Beige G3, slot loaded iMacs, and the AGP-based PowerMac G4's. The driver is licensed under the Third Party Driver Software License Agreement (SLA) (internal use - no redistribution permitted) and is available from: http://www.opensource.apple.com/projects/darwin/1.4/release/ThirdPartyDrivers.tar.gz * Special driver required for nVIDIA graphics card. The driver is licensed under the Third Party Driver SLA (internal use - no redistribution permitted) and is available from: http://www.opensource.apple.com/projects/darwin/1.4/release/ThirdPartyDrivers.tar.gz * Special driver required for certain DVD computer models with ATI graphics cards. The driver is licensed under the Third Party Driver SLA (internal use - no redistribution permitted) and is available from: http://www.opensource.apple.com/projects/darwin/1.4/release/ThirdPartyDrivers.tar.gz * SCSI CD-ROM drives are not supported x86 Known Issues ---------------- * IDE drives may not work on x86. Try it, if it doesn't work, it's a known problem. * Video cards must support VESA 2.0 framebuffer modes on x86. Try it, if your console looks weird, or doesn't appear, it's a known problem.
