httpd is the CERN web server.  The last known location of httpd source is [http://de-mirror.org/archiv/slackware/slackware-2.1/source/contrib/httpd/ here].  Apache grew out of httpd, as a series of patches to httpd, much the same way that NetBSD/FreeBSD grew out of 386BSD.
