Christie's sale(s)

So, the LCM collection was sold by Christie's in two sales, one in person, apparently of what were thought to be the most significant/valuable items (it's not clear which; some items in this one went for a lot less than the most expensive ones in the second), and one online.

I have gone through both, and added a link to the computer-related items to the appropriate article (and, in a few cases - KENBAK-1‎, MICRAL N‎, IMSAI 8080‎, Sol-20‎ - created them - some as stubs).

The real reason for this note is to point out that each item has some good photos; in some cases (e.g. the KI10), lots of photos. Therein lie several rubs. First, I expect the images are copyrighted; i.e. we can't just upload them here (which is what we'd have to do, to be able to have them display in articles, I am fairly sure). So, our only option is to add links to each item, and add a note (as I have done) on each item, that there are images on the item's sale page. It would be possible to add links to individual images (e.g. this truly wonderful PDP-5 one), but that would be a lot of work.

And the problem there is that i) Christie's is unlikely to keep the pages around forever, and ii) the Internet Archive is archiving the item sale pages, but not the images! So, I have gone through and saved copies of all the images on the items I have linked to; that way, if Christie's takes the pages down, the images aren't gone forever. (Someone else can deal with them, to get permission to use them!)

If anyone does want to add image links, just go to the item's page, and do a 'view HTML source' operation. The URL for the first image is pretty easy to find. Cut-and-paste it across; one can trim everything inside the '()'s. It will end with '_000.jpg'; to get to the other images, just edit it to read '001', etc. Jnc (talk) 19:13, 29 April 2025 (CEST)

Christie's items

These are the things to which I added links to items at the Christie's sale:

in case anyone wants to do anything about images (above). Jnc (talk) 16:49, 30 April 2025 (CEST)
