A news was the first 'networked' news program, the direct forerunner of the modern NNTP protocol. From what I can find, it was released on 06/24/1980 in a UseNIX conference from Duke university.

A news relied on Unix v7's messaging functions and UUCP to create a global news network.

A news was later supplanted by B News.
