Quotation from: VAX PDP-11 Systems and Options Catalogue, European Edition, Autumn 1985:

"PRO/VENIX is a genuine UNIX operating system developed specifically for the Professional 300 Series by VenturCom, Inc. Based on Version 7 UNIX and incorporating several of the popular University of California at Berkeley extensions, PRO/VENIX carries an AT&T System V binary license to accommodate newer releases of AT&T UNIX. PRO/VENIX is the UNIX operating system of choice for the Professional because of its special features, such as graphics support and code mapping, that take advantage of the Professional’s unique capabilities.
