CompuServe (originally CompuServ Network, Incorporated) was an early computer services company, founded in 1970 as a subsidiary of Golden United Life Insurance. They sold access to time-sharing systems, for which they used PDP-10's heavily (initially for life insurance companies, with a specialized applications for them).
To start with, they had a KA10, on which they ran lightly-modified versions of TOPS-10; they soon bought more of them, as their business rapidly grew. Later, they migrated, successively, to KI10s (which they enhanced with a cache), KL10s (which they improved with switching power supplies), and Systems Concepts SC-30s.
They were acquired by H&R Block in 1980.
