The PDP-11/34A is the version of the PDP-11/34 with the upgraded KD11-EA CPU needed to supported the optional FP11-A floating point unit and/or the KK11-A cache.

A PDP-11/34 could be converted to a PDP-11/34A by simply replacing the two hex boards of the KD11-E CPU. Since the DD11-P backplane of the -11/34 was not modified, if the cache or floating point boards were added, it used a baroque system of special over the top (OTT) connectors to join up one or both to the rest of the CPU.
