The MicroPDP-11 (originally named the MICRO/PDP-11) replaced the PDP-11/23-PLUS in the second half of 1982; the most important advance was the new BA23 Enclosure with its coordinated components:

The older BA11-S enclosure was offered for a while in parallel with the new BA23, but its production was finally discontinued in 1983.

The M8189 KDF11-B CPU board was still the same as in the former PDP-11/23-PLUS.

This was the start of a new series of DEC PDP-11 and VAX QBUS-based "Microsystems", beginning with the first member, the MicroPDP-11, which was later renamed to MicroPDP-11/23 to distinguish it from its successor systems.
