− | For more about me, see my home page. | + | Although I have a wide interest in older computers, I worked with PDP-11's extremely extensively 'back in the day', and consider them perhaps the most elegant architecture ever devised (the power and flexibility they obtained with only 16-bit wide instructions were a revelation when they first appeared), so I started out by focusing on them. I also worked a lot on early UNIX (whose bang/buck ratio has never been surpassed, and almost certainly never will), back when it only ran on PDP-11's, before it was portable. (All of that was in the context of my work on the Internet - and, yes, it is spelled with a 'I'.) |

+ | For more about me, see my home page. I joined the project here at the end of November, 2015, and have been working on it ever since. + | Also, I'm an admin here on the CHWiki, so if there are any admin-type tasks you need doing (e.g. deleting a page with a typo in the name; merging edit histories; etc) just drop me a line (jnc at alum dot mit dot edu). | ||

Latest revision as of 15:22, 16 September 2024
Although I have a wide interest in older computers, I worked with PDP-11's extremely extensively 'back in the day', and consider them perhaps the most elegant architecture ever devised (the power and flexibility they obtained with only 16-bit wide instructions were a revelation when they first appeared), so I started out by focusing on them. I also worked a lot on early UNIX (whose bang/buck ratio has never been surpassed, and almost certainly never will), back when it only ran on PDP-11's, before it was portable. (All of that was in the context of my work on the Internet - and, yes, it is spelled with a 'I'.)
For more about me, see my home page. I joined the project here at the end of November, 2015, and have been working on it ever since. This seems to have been my first edit.
Also, I'm an admin here on the CHWiki, so if there are any admin-type tasks you need doing (e.g. deleting a page with a typo in the name; merging edit histories; etc) just drop me a line (jnc at alum dot mit dot edu).
